ABOUT GROUP

Fertilog Oy company was established in 2010. The company's main activity is the transshipment of mineral fertilizers at the port of HaminaKotka. From the very beginning of our work, we attracted cargo that had not previously been transshiped in Finland.

Based on the logic of business development, several independent companies were created, including joint ones with producers of mineral fertilizers, which formed the Fertilog Group holding. Thanks to the creation of joint companies with cargo suppliers and the conclusion of long-term contracts with them, guaranteeing stable cargo flow, Fertilog Group was able to implement several large long-term investment projects in the port of HaminaKotka.

Currently, Fertilog Group owns one of the largest mineral fertilizer transshipment terminals in Finland, consisting of four warehouse complexes located in the port of HaminaKotka, approximately 130 km by rail from the Russian border. Since the terminal began operating in 2011, more than 16 million tons of mineral fertilizers (mainly urea) have been transshipped. Our terminal is one of 3 terminals on the Baltic Sea, which can accept vessels with a large carrying capacity (60,000 tons), the berth draft is 15.3 meters. At the same time, the use of modern high-tech equipment allows for high loading speeds (one of the highest in the Baltic).

Fertilog Group terminals provide their customers with a full range of services for the transshipment of mineral fertilizers, including unloading wagons, storage, loading onto sea vessels, and processing the necessary documents. Two berths with a length of 400 meters and a depth of up to 15 meters allow loading Panamax class vessels. High loading speed is ensured by several ship loaders, which makes it possible to simultaneously loading two handy-class vessels. The available capacities allow the terminals to transship more than 3 million tons of mineral fertilizers per year. Only the most modern and environmentally friendly technologies were used in the construction of the terminals.

Today, Fertilog Group manages four warehouse complexes with a total simultaneous storage capacity of more than 180 thousand tons of mineral fertilizers. Two unloading stations can discharge more than 200 wagons per day. Clients of the terminals are large producers of industrial chemicals and mineral fertilizers. Most clients have long-term contracts with us.

Basic operating principles of terminals and other Fertilog Group companies

- All terminals have long-term contracts with producers of mineral fertilizers. The of long-term contracts allow our clients to provide logistics for their cargo. For Fertilog Group terminals, long-term contracts with suppliers are a guarantee of uninterrupted operation for years to come. Mineral fertilizers are a humanitarian cargo according to the UN classification and serve to ensure food security in the world.

- The produced cargo is loaded into specialized wagons, which are transferred to the carrier. The presence of the same railway gauge in Russia and Finland simplifies the process of wagons transferring.

- After the loaded wagons arrive at the Fertilog Group terminals, they are unloaded, depending on the circumstances, into warehouses or directly on board of the vessel. The unloaded wagons are handed over to the Finnish carrier for their return.

- Fertilog Group terminals have agreements with stevedoring companies, which, if necessary, ensure the operation of the terminals 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. 24-hours operation of the terminals (including weekends and holidays) allows:

  • a) quickly unload arriving wagons with cargo and thus reduce the wagons turnaround for our clients, which in turn gives them the opportunity to reduce the number of wagons required for transportation;
  • b) ensure a high rate of vessel loading, which in turn allows our clients to reduce the cost of sea freight;
  • c) fulfill all obligations to our clients regarding the annual volumes of cargo transshipment.

- Loading of sea vessels at Fertilog Group terminals is carried out at two berths using two ship loading machines. Thus, 2 sea vessels can be loaded simultaneously; loading is carried out around the clock. OY Fertall Maritime Ltd is responsible for resolving all issues related to the entry of a sea vessel into the port of HaminaKotka.

- Fertitrans GmbH coordinates the schedule of cargo arrival at terminals and the schedule of sea vessels arrivals for loading, allowing to avoid both overstocking of warehouses demurrage of sea vessels while waiting for berthing.

The coordinated work of a team of professionals with many years of experience allows us to quickly unload wagons, load sea vessels and fulfill all our obligations.
